History of SARGENT Bradford Series
In 1810, the Sargent family entered the hardware business, beginning the trail that eventually led to the present SARGENT Manufacturing Company. Joseph Bradford Sargent and his brothers operated a wholesale hardware business in New York City, the predecessor to the present company. After manufacturing for a period of time in New Britain, CT, they moved the factory to New Haven, CT to be closer to the sea for shipping purposes and the delivery of raw materials, incorporating under the laws of Connecticut as SARGENT & Co.
Founded in 1864, SARGENT® remains a market leader in locksets, cylinders, door closers, exit devices, electro-mechanical products, and access control systems for new construction, renovation, and replacement applications. SARGENT has developed its reputation as a manufacturer of architectural hardware by delivering high quality solutions for commercial construction, institutional and industrial hardware.
In January of 1996, ASSA ABLOY AB made SARGENT and several of its North American sister companies part of their group. The ASSA ABLOY Group headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden is the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of locks and associated products, dedicated to satisfying end-user needs for security, safety and convenience.
The SARGENT Bradford Series was initiated in 1992, using the middle name of SARGENTs founding father. This series provides a one source full line light commercial door hardware stocking program targeted to address the needs of lumberyards, homecenters, D-I-Y markets and hardware retailers. The Bradford Series product is consistently shipped within 48 hours. Reflective of the high quality of SARGENTs heavy commercial products, the Bradford Series provides the small contractor with the same consistent quality, innovation, ease of use and installation that is synonymous with the SARGENT name.
